Since getting to explore Iowa, I’ve been encouraged to see that native advocacy is also a topic of conversation in this region, too!
Here is the information I’ve seen on flyers and yard signs recently:
- The “Honor Native Land Fund” is working for “rematriation of land to Indigenous stewardship.” You can visit their website for more information about Midwestern work that parallels what we are learning in California.
- Great Plains Action Society* has been campaigning for the protection of native lands since the advent of the NoDAPL / Standing Rock movement. See the following link for more info on their ReMatriation Campaign.
- GPAS* also reminds us that #EveryChildMatters — September 30 is Canada’s Orange Shirt Day, also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
These initiatives can help us amplify critical messaging about indigenous priorities nowadays, in California and beyond. Please spread the word and comment on this post with any questions!
– Lauren
